River Wildlife's 500 acre wilderness preserve is maintained in a natural state for the preservation of native vegetation and wildlife. Thirty miles of woodland trails and seven miles of the meandering Sheboygan River provide abundant opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Recreational activities are available to members and resort guests with a purchased entry pass.
Fishing
Some of the best fishing in the state is available in the fall and spring as trout and salmon make their way upstream on the Sheboygan River. Anglers must provide their own fishing gear and purchase applicable licenses. Guide service is available by advance reservations.
Clay Shooting Sports
Sharpen your shooting skills at our year-round shooting range featuring both International Trap and 5 Stand. The compact five station course provides an invigorating workout for the experienced shooter. Each station simulates different wild game as it's being flushed - "running rabbit", "springing teal", etc. Trapshooting provides novices with basic shooting skills and is a fun, competitive activity for groups. Equipment and instruction are available. Also available is an outdoor pistol/rifle range.
Canoes & Kayaks
Enjoy an exhilarating adventure paddling down seven miles of the rambling Sheboygan River in one of our canoes or kayaks. River Wildlife personnel will transport you upstream to a launch site in Sheboygan Falls to start your journey. This invigorating trip takes about two and one-half hours, includes portaging around two dams and requires average physical stamina.
Horseback Riding
Explore the natural beauty of River Wildlife's woodlands, meadows and valleys on one of our well-trained western pleasure horses. Our expert guide will escort you on a trail ride that will linger in your memory for seasons to come. Experience is not required; minimum age is twelve.
Hunting
One of the Midwest's premiere shooting clubs offers pheasant and partridge hunting in a variety of different terrains. Our hunt fields are planted with native prairie grasses and annual cover crops. Since they are situated along the river and woods, they provide a challenging workout for both hunters and their dogs. Hunting season runs from mid-September to early spring. Expert guides and equipment are available.
Birder's Hike
Enjoy a one mile self-guided hike along the meandering Sheboygan River. Bird identification field guide and binoculars are provided and a picnic lunch can be prepared by advance reservation. Available daily 8am-3pm, April through August.
3-D Archery Range
Sharpen your archery skills at our archery walk, located in the wooded area behind our trap range. Stationary wildlife targets (deer, turkey & bear) are included, however, you will need to provide your own equipment. Open daily by reservation.
Wildlife Sanctuary
Miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails wind throughout the preserve and afford one the privilege of viewing wildlife first hand. It is not unusual to see wild turkeys, red fox, herons, geese, ducks, hawks and clusters of deer with their spotted fawns on one outing. Four wilderness campsites have been established along the trails for picnics or overnight use.
Tomczyk Cabin
This secluded, historical log cabin and wood burning sauna are located next of to fishing pond and sleeps up to eight people. It can only be reached by one-half mile or more of hiking or cross-country skiing - perfect for a weekend away from it all!
